Why authority routing matters

Not every jurisdiction uses a freestanding “Board of Nursing.” Some functions sit inside a health, commerce, professional regulation or education department. Some jurisdictions split RN/APRN and LPN/LVN oversight. Contact the authority assigned to the credential and task.

Before you contact an authority

Prepare a precise question and identify the credential, application type, license number or transaction reference. Use an official email, form, phone number or mailing address. Do not send Social Security numbers, fingerprints, criminal records or payment information to an address copied from an unofficial directory.

Keep a contact record

Write down the date, office or unit, method, question and response. For employment or practice decisions, confirm the final result in the public verification system. Phone guidance is not a substitute for an issued license or written board order.
